Welcome!
Welcome to our latest issue of our quarterly newsletter for the analyst community which coincides with Logicalis’ launch of its new global branding. Implemented across all its markets, it is a further step in unifying all our markets and establishing a distinct positioning for the Logicalis' brand.
Much has happened over the past quarter. For example, on 2nd December 2010, Logicalis acquired Network Infrastructure Corporation (NIC), a Phoenix, Arizona-based Cisco Gold Partner. NIC provides network consulting and IT services to the K-12 education, state and local government, gaming and hospitality markets across the Southwest United States (click here for further information).
Then, on 18th November 2010, Logicalis announced its expansion into Bolivia to supplement its network of offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay (click here for further information).
And, on 20th September 2010, Logicalis acquired Touchbase Singapore, a Unified Communications (UC) solutions provider focusing on UC and customer contact centre solutions (click here for more information).
Our new Data Centre at Logicalis, Slough, UK has been operating since May 2010. As there has been much interest in this and our Cloud capabilities, we recently hosted a visit of industry analysts to the DC. As a number of analysts wished to attend but couldn’t make this particular date, another visit will be organised in early 2011 (click here if you would wish to attend).
This newsletter has been created to keep you abreast of our latest news and announcements so, if there is anything in particular that you would wish to hear about from Logicalis, or if we can help you with your research, please do not hesitate to tell us.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
Kind regards
Joanne James

Logicalis: Public Sector Manifesto
Logicalis UK has just published a Public Sector Manifesto, which gives our view about what’s happening in the public sector IT space. Logicalis’ experience in partnering with Local Authorities, Health Services, universities and colleges, and the devolved Welsh Assembly Government has enabled us to create a series of Public Sector Business and Technology Architectures that can make a big difference in some key areas, enabling IT and Communications Technology ( ICT) to become more accountable and more efficient.
The challenge facing most Chief Executives in all public services is simply one of cutting the cost of delivery while maintaining the same levels of service, or providing more services. As part of this, they will be challenging every member of their executive team to find savings, or realising the value of existing assets. They will be looking at ICT as an area where dramatic cost reductions can be made.
Logicalis has four key business and technology architectural goals:
- Architectures that enable ICT to get its house in order
- Architectures that help the public sector deliver business savings and continue service delivery
- Architectures that change the procurement and provisioning of technology and services
- Architectures that enable the creation of local, regional and national shared services
ICT architectures can be applied to every one of these key business transformations:
- Smarter Workspace
- Workforce Collaboration
- Streamlined Citizen Engagement
- Community and Regional Public Sector Network (PSN)
- Virtualised Infrastructure
- Shared Services Data Centre and G-Cloud
- Partnership and Procurement
- Smarter Software and Smarter Information
These eight key architectures are applicable to Local Government, Health, Education, and other key public sector organisations, including regional and national government services.

Logicalis: Healthcare
In today’s healthcare environment, increasing patient care and safety, efficiently engaging specialists and reducing enterprise costs are not choices but a requirement.
Logicalis has developed a Top Ten HIT (Healthcare Information Technology) List of technology initiatives that are on the radar screen, in the planning process, or in early implementation phases for many healthcare IT organisations.
Logicalis - Top Ten HIT List:
- Electronic Health/Medical Records (EHR or EMR)
- Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity
- Medical Archiving Systems (MAS)
- Storage Consolidation and Virtualization
- Backup (disk-based and online storage)
- Business Intelligence
- Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
- Infrastructure for Health Information Systems
- Compliance
- Securing Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI)
Healthcare IT environments present a unique set of challenges to IT departments but also share many of the same issues that face organisations across a broad range of industries. As part of the series, Logicalis has produced several in-depth features that not only offer solutions to many of the problems that organisations confront today but also identify technologies that proactive IT departments can leverage to give their organisations a competitive edge.

New wins
Logicalis delivers a Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Solution for Total Safety U.S., Inc with its Logicalis Enterprise Cloud.
Total Safety U.S., Inc. is the world's leading global provider of integrated industrial safety services, strategies and equipment necessary to keep workers, facilities and the environment safe.
Logicalis provides Disaster Recovery (DR) to Total Safety in Houston, in our Logicalis Enterprise Cloud for their main ERP application Rental Man. This is their primary business-critical application that runs their business, which is the rental of safety equipment globally. Total Safety's world headquarters in Houston, has the threat of hurricanes, and all that comes with being based on the Gulf of Mexico.
The Rental Man application is based on the IBM platform. It is replicated to our Logicalis Enterprise Cloud using iTera's replication solution. Today, the solution is VPN over the Internet, with a T1 circuit being installed shortly, between the two locations. The circuit will have the VPN/Internet as a secondary route eliminating a single point of failure.
Additionally, Logicalis Enterprise Cloud provides cloud based DR for Total Safety's ancillary applications, like Exchange, using DoubleTake replication technologies.
This is our first DR solution in the Cloud and has resulted in a 36 month annuity contract.
The next two projects for Total Safety and Logicalis, will be to provide managed PowerSystems (IBM i), also know as iSeries, services and after-hours help desk for 80+ locations for their global user base.

Trends across the Logicalis’ regions... South America
TelePresence
Logicalis has recently won some significant large TelePresence projects in South America, mainly driven by multinationals trying to integrate themselves on an operational level with their corporate HQ, one being a large multinational drinks manufacturer. This particular implementation in Argentina was one of the most relevant Logicalis TelePresence projects to date, with the installment of the full three screen TelePresence room.
Unified Fabric
We are observing an important accelerated uptake for Unified Fabric solutions in the deployment of the Cisco NEXUS product family throughout the region, with clients such as a large national oil company in Argentina and UTE Uruguay (energy utility), Telefonica, Uruguay and another large service provider in Paraguay (Nucleo).
This market transformation for delivering a unified fabric for public and private data centres is driving a new wave of data centre investments in South America, positioning Logicalis strongly in this arena.
The Unified Fabric solutions can present significant savings for data centre and IT administrators and simplify management. Across the Southern Cone of South America, Logicalis is experiencing its first big deployments of NEXUS, and deployed several large NEXUS projects. This market trends lags behind Brazil by some 12 months or more, but is indicative of a new wave of investment in the rest of South America.
